the story

The system's original configuration was bought in 1998. It was my first computer since a long while (the previous one was a very old 486). The idea for an OS was Windows 95, but with it, I had some driver issues, so had to move on to Windows 98. As I was rolling into more and more gaming, I replaced its stock S3 Virge GX2 (with a whole 4 MB VRAM) with a fancy brand new 3dfx Voodoo Banshee (with 16 MB VRAM)

Later on, due to problems with its motherboard (after my computer shop managed to give me a wrong type of RAM), it was replaced with a Pentium 2 / Pentium 3 compatible motherboard (by ASUS), allowing for a proper upgrade path to Pentium III. Not a very long time later, I threw out the Pentium 2 CPU and put in a Pentium 3 500mhz.

Due to the failing of 3dfx and lack of driver support in Windows 2000, I had to replace the Banshee with another: the ATI Radeon 8500, which was at that time the fastest card available (it was only superseded by the Geforce 4, which was released much later than the R8500). However, due to the fact that the rest of the hardware was way outdated, I moved the R8500 on to Ayanami.

With the coming of Ayanami, it became a sort of development server for my websites, running a LAMP configuration.

The computer retired as it was replaced with Ayanami as a multi-purpose server, with the purchase of Sakura.
